Leading Through Change - 2018 PMINAC Seminar

Seminar PMINAC

Course Description:

Projects often fail to realize their full benefits, despite having a well structured and planned technical solution, if there is low adoption and engagement by end users. The introduction of a change, with any project or initiative, needs to be effectively managed on both the technical side and the people side. Often it is the ‘people side’ that is either neglected or misunderstood, but relationship management skills are critical to the success of any change initiative. Understanding the impacts of change at the individual, team, and organizational level is critical to the role of any project manager or leader.

Beyond the traditional ‘change management’ training programs, this ‘change leadership’ session will examine how individuals experience the impacts of change differently and how project managers, leaders, and individuals can anticipate and support positive outcomes. Focusing on the development of change leadership skills, including communication style, conflict management, relationship building, and stakeholder engagement, this course will build self-awareness as well as an understanding of how to strengthen these critical interpersonal skills for success.

Using various change theories, including the Prosci ADKAR® Model, this session builds change competency in leaders by defining their role in change and provides a practical framework for being an effective change leader. This participative workshop will explore the concepts of overcoming resistance to change and developing agility in leading teams through change initiatives.

Learning Objectives:

▪ Understand the impact of change management on organizational results;
▪ Understand change management principles and the critical role project managers and leaders play in the process;
▪ Develop self-awareness of your own preferences around communication, conflict style, and relationship building and how these preferences impact interpersonal relationships;
▪ Understand the impact of emotional and social intelligence on relationship building, stakeholder engagement, and negotiating for results;
▪ Learn practical strategies for developing your leadership competencies in order to strengthen your ability to impact the success of change initiatives; and
▪ Identify and understand why people often resist change.

Our Approach:
This workshop is highly interactive, utilizing multiple learning approaches, including classroom delivery, video, group discussion, and practical exercises to ensure participants leave the training with actionable steps they are able to implement immediately. We will introduce various change theories and models, as well as tools for assessing and understanding change leadership competencies.
