2018 January Dinner Meeting

TOPICRe-Building Morale in Project Teams After Company Layoffs

PRESENTERClaudia Gomez-Villeneuve

Every economic downturn can cause a wave of personnel reductions in many companies. The impact on the workers who lose their jobs and struggle without pay is obvious. But what is not obvious is the impact on the workers who stay, that keep their jobs and 'survive' the layoff. This second group can experience 'survivor syndrome' similar to what soldiers feel after the war is over. This advanced session will teach management: (1) how to recognize the signs of layoff survivor syndrome within themselves and within their teams, (2) what information management needs to give teams to counteract the negative impacts of this syndrome on engagement and productivity, and (3) which positive actions management can take to restore morale in teams to allow them to work together and perform well again.
