2017 September Dinner Meeting

“Why?” Answer that, and you explain everything.
It’s a simple question to ask. It’s also an incredibly difficult and challenging one to answer. It’s particularly difficult to answer honestly, in that we are frequently forced to challenge uncomfortable truths that we would prefer to leave unaddressed. At the same time, not confronting the question frequently means much greater levels of pain, frustration and work face us down the road.
We need to answer “why?” about our projects. We need to answer “why?” about our strategies. We need to answer “why?” about our values. We even need to answer “why?” on the subject of getting out of bed in the morning.
More importantly than asking, though, we need strategies for how to answer “why?” In particular, we need to recognize when we are answering “why” well, and when we are avoiding, evading and obfuscating. In this dinner meeting, Mark Mullaly delves into why “why?” matters. He explores why it should have particular meaning and relevance in our work and our lives. He also examines why we often don’t answer the question well. Most importantly, he provides strategies to place “Why?” front and centre, to answer it well and to use those answers to guide us in every other choice we need to make.
